Product Description
Reduce Network Traffic Congestion It functionally eliminates unnecessary traffic and relieves data congestion by delivering dedicated bandwidth for each of the five ports. An individual port can connect to either an Ethernet or Fast Ethernet device. NWay auto-negotiation automatically determines the transmission speed of the attached device on each port. Advanced Features The DSS-5+ provides dynamic buffer allocation that employs network-load balancing for faster data handling. The uplink interface connection enables easy expansion. The DSS-5+ uses fast store and forward architecture to ensure low latency and high data integrity. It supports stacking though the MDI II uplink RJ-45 connection that is shared with port 1 for flexible media connection and expansion capabilities.

5 out of 5 stars Does exactly what it is supposed to.   November 15, 2009

Does what a ethernet switch should. Nice 10/100 indicator lights. I plugged this switch into another d-link switch to add more ports in my wife's office. No crossing cables required. I recommend this switch. Please note that I bought mine "used" for under $10, which is about the max I would ever pay for a 5 port switch.....

3 out of 5 stars Works great most of the time   August 23, 2009

I really wish I could give this 3.5 stars because I don't want to dissuade people from getting a decent performing switch at a good price. But my biggest issue with this thing is that power glitches/bumps (like when a thunderstorm comes through) throw this thing for a serious loop. Turns out that after a momentary loss of power, the thing somehow loses itself and won't allow communication between any of the connections though it appears normal from the LED activity. I have to disconnect the power, wait a few seconds, then reconnect and all is happy. It's not a big deal, more of a nuisance, but moreso I hate getting calls at work from my wife and having to help her troubleshoot because she can't print from the laptop (printer connected to switch) or she can't use the desktop. A power switch or reset button lacking, pulling the plug is a lame way of resetting this thing. I suspect it may suffer from forgetfulness for other reasons, but power glitches are the only obvious causes I can come up with. That gets me to thinking this thing is best operated off a UPS unless you're content with performing a hard reset from time to time. Maybe I just have a slightly faulty unit. Works as advertised otherwise.

5 out of 5 stars Good reliable switch   August 5, 2008

This switch is absolutely fantastic for what you pay for. This switch has extremely low latency when using it as well as a small kinda compact design. The only gripe I have about this switch is that it uses a power cable, and the power cable included isnt really long enough in my opinion.

5 out of 5 stars It works!   February 16, 2008

Hurrah! Not much to report except that it's as painless as technology will ever get. You plug it in and now you have more ports. Success!

I've been using this switch non-stop ever since I bought it years ago and it has been fully functional.
