Works great. Easy intall March 4, 2008 Joe Davis (Lamar,, MO USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This thing worked great. Cable is long enough so you can place it on top of computer or on a shelf for better reception. Super easy to setup.
Poor signal strength and poor quality overall February 5, 2008 William A. Ferring This adapter has been my worst computer peripheral purchase, ever. I purchased it about 7 months ago and it has been nothing but unreliable from the start.
Out of the box, it would not work at all with the built-in Wireless Connections tool built into XP. While not a big deal, it still made me wonder about the product.
After installing the proprietary DWL-G120 Utility program, it took me what seemed like forever to find a decent spot to get any type of a usable signal. I even tried sitting it right by a laptop of mine that, in the same location, gets an "Excellent" signal from my wireless router.
Once I found one of the only places in my office where I could get a "Good" signal, I found out that the signal only lasts for a little while. The network card would drop to 20%, and then back up to 50-60% periodically the whole time my PC was up. I never saw a signal any higher than 60 or 65% in the DWL-G120 utility.
When it would connect to my wireless router, it had decent transfer speed, but it was so inconsistent that I would periodically have to drag out my 30' cable and connect to the wired port in my router when having to move more than a few files.
Finally, after the signal kept dropping for longer periods, the adapter simply stopped working, alternating between attempting to connect to my network and scanning for a wireless network. I finally just tossed it in the trash.
I would not recommend this to anyone looking for a reliable wireless adapter.
Not Vista Compatible November 7, 2007 Franklin Pang This item is excellent overall if you have XP.
However, it is NOT Vista compatible. I found a driver off the D-Link Taiwanese website that got the driver to work, but it still produced annoying errors and the device does not consistently perform in Vista.
It is not likely that D-Link will produce a Vista-compatible driver, since this product has been discontinued.
Do not buy this if you have Vista or are thinking about getting Vista.
Not compatible and not returnable August 8, 2007 jk47 (Oakland, CA) After purchasing this item I discovered it was not compatible with the WPA encryption on my wireless network. But since I had opened the box, the seller refused to accept a return. Make sure you do your research and confirm that this adapter will work for you.
A real bargain June 8, 2007 D. Jackson (San Jose, CA USA) Sensitivity is great. This USB 802.11g adapter is regularly able to pick up 4 to 6 times as many nearby APs as any of my PCMCIA based WLAN adapters, and in 3 weeks has never dropped my link, to my knowlege. With Windows in control of it there are almost no config options available. But so far I find no fine tuning needed. The worst thing I can say about this adapter is that it is a little too small and light--the normal springyness of the USB cable makes it unlikely to sit flat on any surface without velcro, and difficult to "aim". But for the trivial price, it's a real bargain.
